Focus of I John

John was writing to churches full of people who struggled with discouragement whether due to their own sinful failures or the presence of false teachers. Today, we go through ups and downs in our Christian faith. Whatever the struggle, whether outside of us or inside, we often feel ourselves blown about by the winds of emotion or circumstances. John was hoping to ignite, in these early believers and us, a zeal and a confidence to follow the Lord more closely and to stand firmly during difficult times.  He challenges us to embrace the fellowship and joy of the faith as we strive to live godly lives and do so with love.

How would you characterize your relationship with God—consistent and fruitful or sporadic and parched?  Either way, this six-week study of I John will be beneficial and enlightening.
