Who We Are
Paul Barnes, Minister of Music
Mr. Barnes began his service as Minister of Music, First Baptist Church, Sun City West, in January 2006. Paul is responsible for organizing and leading the music program for worship and special events.
A graduate of Grand Canyon University and Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary, he has served churches in Buckeye, Phoenix, Tempe, and Glendale in
Arizona, and in Kerens, Gatesville, and Ft. Worth in Texas. Paul also served the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention from 1964-1968 as Director of Campus Ministries and Church Music.
Since 1971, his music ministry has been on a part-time basis, while full-time work
was in fundraising and executive roles at Grand Canyon University, J. C. Lincoln
Health Corp., and St. Mary's Food Bank. Prior to retirement in 2003, he was Executive Director of the Food Bank for almost eight years, and served as Minister of Music at Apollo Baptist Church, Glendale, for seventeen years. Mr. Barnes is well known in Baptist work in Arizona as he has served in the state for more than fifty years. He and his wife, Barbara, have three adult children, and two grandchildren.
